Dirk Nowitzki is part of the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame’s Class of 2023 with Dwyane Wade, Gregg Popovich, and others, according to a Dallas Morning News article. They say,
“With no suspense and to the surprise of no one, it was announced Saturday that Mavericks legend Dirk Nowitzki is among the headliners for the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame’s star-packed Class of 2023.
Nowitzki was in Houston for Saturday’s announcement, which was made in conjunction with the NCAA Men’s Final Four festivities there. As expected, fellow NBA legends Dwyane Wade, Gregg Popovich, Tony Parker and Pau Gasol are part of the Class of 2023.”
The members of class of 2023 were recognized for their exceptional contributions to the NBA, including numerous All-Star appearances, NBA championships, and MVP awards, according to a The Athletic article. They say,
- “Wade was a 13-time All-Star and won three NBA championships with the Miami Heat (2006, 2012 and 2013). He earned the 2006 Finals MVP award.
- Popovich, who is actively coaching the Spurs, has the most wins in NBA history (1,363) and has guided San Antonio to five championships (1999, 2003, 2005, 2007 and 2014). Additionally, he steered Team USA to Olympic gold in 2021.
- Gasol was a six-time All-Star, 2002 NBA Rookie of the Year and a two-time champion with the Los Angeles Lakers (2009 and 2010).
- Parker, a six-time All-Star, won four of those championships with Popovich and the Spurs. In 2007, he earned the Finals MVP.”
On August 12, Dirk Nowitzki will receive the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame induction, a well-deserved tribute to his legendary career.
