Frisco will now be a location for the newest Portillo store to serve the increasing population of Dallas according to a Fox 4 News article from October 26 which reports,
“A popular Chicago-based hot dog chain is expected to make its debut in Texas next year with a restaurant in the Dallas area.
According to Forbes, Portillo’s currently has locations in nine states with plans to expand into Texas, Florida and Arizona in 2022.
Those plans will start with a flagship restaurant in the Dallas market because of its growing population.”
Portillo’s soon to open Frisco location will be the 68th branch and the first one in Texas according to a Plano Magazine article from October 26 which says,
“Portillo’s now has 67 restaurants across nine states. Most are in Illinois and neighboring Midwestern states, though there are a few locations in California, Arizona and Florida.”
However, no definite date was announced for the opening of Portillo in Texas according to a Local Profile article from October 27 which says,
“Although the restaurant has yet to share an estimated opening date for their first Texas location, fans of the lauded hot dog staple can order bundles and food packages to make beef sandwiches and hot dogs at home. According to the Chicago Tribune, Texas is Portillo’s number-one Shop & Ship state.”
Interestingly, the hot dog chain went public a week before the announcement of opening a new Texas branch and sold millions of share according to a Chicago Sun Times article from October 21 which reports,
“Investors feasted on the shares of Portillo’s, bidding up the value of the company’s stock Thursday by almost 50% after its initial public offering.
After launching at $20 per share, the stock rose steadily in the first trading session, ending Thursday at $29.10 after spending much of the afternoon higher than $30. Underwriters brought to market 20.27 million shares of the restaurant chain, long a Chicago favorite.”
Both the expansion and selling of stocks in the public is part of Portillo’s grand vision wherein they will have over 600 stores in different states in the next 25 years.
