Matthew McConaughey to Star in Dallas Sting

Matthew McConaughey is set to star in the fact-based movie “Dallas Sting” which is about underdogs winning against the best teams according to a Deadline article. They say,

“Matthew McConaughey is set to star in Dallas Sting, the fact-based story of how a group of Dallas high school girls headed to China in 1984 as the ultimate underdog and beat some of the best women’s teams from China, Australia and Italy. Kari Skogland is attached to direct the film developed by Skydance and Berlanti Schechter Productions. Apple, which has an overall deal with Skydance, has first bite at the film and I expect a deal to happen before production begins this fall in New Orleans.”

The movie is based on a real underdog team that helped change the sport for women according to a NBC-DFW article. They say,

“Hollywood loves an underdog story. The Dallas Sting’s 1984 win has everything. They were the underdog women’s soccer team that helped change the sport for women.

“We thought we could compete with everyone,” former Dallas Sting Coach Bill Kinder said.

He took the team to China to compete in an international soccer tournament in 1984, playing against some professional teams. The Dallas Sting was a club team, based in Richardson.”

Bill Kinder will be getting together with McConaughey, the movie producers, and the director to get to know one another.
