McKinney’s new H-E-B store

McKinney’s new H-E-B store

Following the Plano and Frisco locations ground break, H-E-B will be giving McKinney its own store location in its 26.3 acre land near McKinney Medical Campus according to a Dallas Morning News article from February 25. They say,

“The San Antonio-based grocer announced last summer that it’s building a store on the northeast corner of Custer Road and Eldorado Parkway. H-E-B has owned the 26.3-acre parcel since 2014, and it’s near the Methodist McKinney Medical Campus built in 2010.

The company made the McKinney store announcement after breaking ground on its Plano and Frisco locations. Those stores are scheduled to open this fall.

H-E-B said it takes about 16 months to build one of its supermarkets. That would put the McKinney store opening sometime in mid-2023. The retailer hasn’t released store details or an architect’s rendering of the store’s exterior yet.

H-E-B said in March 2021 that it was beginning its expansion into the Dallas-Fort Worth market. The official announcement from the grocer, which had sales last year of $32 billion, was a long time coming. The D-FW market, El Paso and the Panhandle are the only parts of the state where the retailer hadn’t expanded in a big way. H-E-B operates 420 stores in Texas and Mexico.”

Aside from new stores in different locations, H-E-B also released a new flavor of its ice cream for its initiatives for teachers according to a ABC 25 article from February 20 which reports,

“The “Education Heroes” release is icing flavored with cake pieces and rainbow sprinkles.

It will be available in both half-gallon and pint sizes, while supplies last.

10 percent of proceeds will be donated to DonorsChoose, helping to fulfill classroom wish lists across Texas.

In 2002, the Excellence in Education Awards program was launched in cooperation with the Texas Association of School Administrators as a way to support public education in Texas.

Since its debut, the program has awarded more than $13 million in funding to support Texas public schools, school boards, early childhood facilities, teachers and principals.”

H-E-B is the largest Texas-based grocery retailer and has various properties throughout Dallas. They will be awarding the donation to the said beneficiaries on April 30, their annual gala celebration called H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards.
