Uptown Dallas will have Poke once again

A new restaurant will be bringing back poke back in Dallas with DIY selections as well as a trendy ice cream soft serve according to a CultureMap Dallas article from December 3 which reports

Poke returns to Uptown Dallas with the opening of Pokeworks, the New York-based fast-casual poke chain, which is opening at 2626 Howell St., #165, on December 11.

The restaurant is going into a former H&R Block office next to WhichWich, at the corner of Howland and Worthington streets, where it will offer fresh Hawaiian-inspired poke bowls and burritos, with a customizable menu and convenient online ordering options for pickup or delivery via web or loyalty app.

Diners can build their own poke bowls, burritos, or salads by selecting from tuna, salmon, chicken, shrimp, or tofu, then adding mix-ins, sauces, and unique crunch toppings for texture.

They’re also one of the places you can get Dole Whip, the delicious frozen soft-serve non-dairy pineapple-flavored ice cream that’s been a trend around Dallas.

The arrival of Pokeworks is just in time since almost recently, the only poke restaurant in Dallas had just closed down according to a CultureMap Dallas article from December 2 which reports,

A poke restaurant has closed in Dallas, which on the surface is a sad thing but also provides insight into what’s working in Dallas restaurants right now.

The restaurant: Malibu Poke, the acclaimed concept from restaurateur Jon Alexis (TJ’s Seafood), and the location that closed was in the McKinney & Olive building at 2355 Olive St. It closed in June.

Malibu Poke was also at the cusp of a poke trend that surged in 2016 but then like all trends has flagged.

“A lot of poke places have closed, but we don’t think of ourselves as a poke restaurant so much as, we’re an alternative to a $50 sushi lunch,” Alexis says. “For us, poke wasn’t like opening a frozen yogurt store. Raw fish is a religion, and the reason I felt confident about it is because, with my background at TJ’s Seafood, all I do is raw fish.”

The new Pokeworks in Uptown Dallas will be serving everyday from 11 AM to 9 PM except on Sundays where they will open at 12 NN and serve only up to 8 PM.
