More than 60% of patients at our Dallas, TX orthodontic office have chosen Invisalign as their method of treatment. With advancements in technology, Invisalign can be used in almost any case instead of traditional braces. Of course, several factors go into choosing an appropriate treatment method, and Dr. Kanabar will discuss all options with you during your consultation.
What is Invisalign?
Traditional metal braces, though still an excellent solution to many dental problems, have their drawbacks. Metal braces are bulky, often interfering with eating, brushing, and flossing. In addition, traditional braces are highly visible, making some users self-conscious. Invisalign aims to provide amazing results without these downsides.
Invisalign plastic aligners are clear, plastic trays specially molded to fit your teeth. You won’t wear the same trays for the duration of treatment. Instead, each set is worn for about 2 weeks, during which time the trays will push your teeth towards an ideal alignment. After 2 weeks, you will switch to a new set of trays with a slightly different shape. Each set of trays will bring you one step closer to a perfect smile. After an average of 8–15 months (a much shorter period than with traditional braces) your treatment will be complete.
Should I Get Invisalign?
Though only your dentist can know which treatment plan is best for your needs, there are several areas in which Invisalign beats all the competition:
- The clear plastic used in Invisalign is virtually invisible – most people won’t even realize that you’re wearing your aligners! Why wait until your treatment is over to be proud of your smile?
- Invisalign aligners can and should be removed when eating, drinking, brushing, and flossing. Since you won’t have to work around any bulky metal brackets and wires, your daily activities will be easier, faster, and more enjoyable.
- Patients using metal braces often report that wires come loose and poke or scratch their gums or cheek. Even when functioning perfectly, metal brackets can irritate the inside of your mouth. Low-profile Invisalign trays provide a softer, gentler experience, and are much less bothersome to wear.
Is Invisalign Right for You?
Invisalign technology has advanced to the point where it can be used as a successful alternative to metal braces in almost all cases. To find out whether this is the right choice for you, be sure to ask Dr. Kanabar about all your treatment options during your next visit.
